View Full Version : Questions about red stickers and other annoying legalities

The title says it all: I'm not looking for legally (and politically) correct advise. Let's skip that part and go staright to punishment.

So

1) What I'm risking riding my red-sticker SuMo bike in the desert? What happens after I get the ticket: they make sure I leave, or it's my pass for the rest of the day? :) What happens if they catch me twice? I'm sure it doesn't go on the DMV record or does it?

2) How strictly it is enforced?

3) Times/areas it's enforced most vs. times/areas with no enforcement.

Those are three main questions. I plan to get my daughter a little electric-start TTR by the end of the year. The only family-firendly area I've seen so far was around Grange. Any other places in the desert like that?

Now to the enforcement side of things: Are those rangers mean? Do they give you a warning first? Would it matter if I keep my bike stock with the spark arrestor and everything even though it's red sticker? Would they overlook a "family guy" like me due to family values and precious childrens' fun never questioned?

And lastly, I'm waiting for that KTM link about spacers as allegedly the dirt wheels wouldn't fit SuMo forks?

Thanks, mang. So what's the legal side of things?

Another question: maybe 17" wheels and enduro tires (not knobbies) would do?

If you get a ticket it's not a free pass.. They can ticket you again or impound your vehicle from disobeying laws..

Just like if you get a speeding ticket it's not a get out of ticket free card for the rest of the day..

Just like if you get a speeding ticket it's not a get out of ticket free card for the rest of the day.. Tell me about it. My first canyon ride on a newly bought R1 I managed to get 3. Lesson learned: the first mod should be a radar detector mount, not the fender eliminator. Shame.

I just thought rangers have slightly different mentality than traffic cops and particularly no pressure to "perform". But what do I know with zero dirt experience.
