Anyone hear any good and/or bad things about these helmets?
http://www.helmetcity.com/cycle/nolan_x-lite.html

A friend of mine just bought one. Funky shape and funky features, but it seems like it'd be pretty good. Gimme input as I'm contemplating one for a future purchase (not now, can't afford it).

That's a lot of money for a non-popular brand. I'd only buy a non popular brand if it offers the same protection at a significantly lower price.

Well, it WOULD be at a significantly lower price of course. If I'm gonna pay that much for a helmet, it'd be a Shoei. graemlins/laughing.gif

I dunno.... I've heard of Nolan but don't know anything about them. There's gotta be a reason why they're so inexpensive and less known. IMO, I wouldn't risk injury or life to save a couple hundred dollars. I've had HJC, Shoei and Arai. Arai's seem to be far superior than the rest... and held up great in my crash test. smile.gif I hit my head pretty hard and I remember thinking at the time that the impact didn't hurt one bit.

ARAI is the way to go. It held up pretty last time I crashed. I dont have experience with other brands, but I dont want to gamble that with my head either :D

Since when is $360 inexpensive? graemlins/eek.gif

They retail for around $400. That site I listed was just one to show the helmets. "My friend" can get a good deal on the helmet if I want one.

I know Nolan makes good helmets, but I think they usually make them geared more towards touring and/or roadracing (cars). These seem to be one of the few sportbike type helmets they make. They can't be TOO bad, Carlos Checa wears one. smile.gif

Oh, and as far as Arai goes... they can bite me. Their helmets don't fit my head very well. Otherwise I'd have an Okada replica right now. Bastards.

Now back on topic of "Anyone hear anything good/bad about these helmets?" ...no more "never heard of it" or "____ is better even though I've never heard of the one you're talking about" posts please. graemlins/2fingercouch.gif

Yeah, I've never seen anyone with a big head like yours! graemlins/twofinger.gif J/K

Arai has different shell shape. Have you tried them all?

It comes down to a basic fact: the shape of the head - the relationship between length and width - are as important as head size in determining the right helmet for you a helmet:

The traditional Arai fit - the "Long Oval" - For heads whose length is distinctly narrow side-to-side, combined with a longer front to back measurement. Arai's Long Oval shell shape is currently available in the Signet, Renegade and Tracker GT series.

The transitional fit - the "Round Oval" - For heads that are distinctly rounder, the length and width being almost even. Arai's Round Oval shell shape is currently available in the Quantum series. (The RX-7 series has a "relaxed" Round Oval shell shape, which is not quite as pronounced as the Quantum's.)

The bridge fit - the "Intermediate Oval" - For heads with a round shape, but with considerably more forehead length. This shape "bridges" the gap between the two previous shapes. Arai's Intermediate Oval shell shape is currently available in the Astral series.

Oval/non-oval isn't the problem. It's the top of the inside of the helmet. Maybe I have a cone-head and have just never noticed.

It's got nothing to do with me having a big head. Arai's are made for people with FLAT heads. Or was it flat-tops? graemlins/twofinger.gif
