View Full Version : Talk to Your Fellow Riders

I really hope that these guys turn out okay. Always bad to see riders down.
By the looks of things, this is why we wear proper gear and space ourselves. Good that those on the scene knew not to move anyone before medical attention arrived on the scene.
After watching Faster, it's refreshing what these racers say about riding on the streets: Hopkins doesn't do it (fear he will be reckless, danger level); Rossi rides his CBR carefully (because of "fawkin idiots" in cars); et cetera. All of them say: if you want to be fast or drag a knee, do it on the track; on the road, you are endangering others as well as yourself.
Go ahead, flame on.
----
This photo is from a group ride yesterday (Sunday). A bunch of friends from Springfield, MO went for a group ride in northern Arkansas. Great roads, great weather, great day for a ride. Unfortunately an unknown 'new kid' on a 600RR joined the ride, with a a horrible ego/skill ratio. The guys were afraid to mention it to him, out of politeness I guess.
They should have. His riding ended up causing tens of thousands in damage, probably hundreds of thousands in medical, and only by the grace of God was no one killed. BARELY.
This is a shot taken at the scene of the accident, mere seconds after the crash. 'Bo' (lower left corner, *UNDER* the truck), is the new CBR 600RR rider that overcooked the corner and proceeded to lowside and wedge himself *under* the Chevy.
The older white Ford in the photo veered into the oncoming lane to go around the wreck, decided against it, and started backing down the hill. This is where Jason (Duc rider, Springfield Police Officer) met the truck, 1/2 way around the corner. Jason jumped from the bike just before impact, and ended up with his head/shoulder through the windshield. Paul (following behind Jason) hit the old Ford as well, though didn't sustain as much damage.
Luckily the other riders knew enough not to move ANYONE, so they left Bo under the truck, and Jason on the hood. Bo might lose his right arm; the doctors haven't decided yet. Jason was conscious the whole time, but understood not to move. Good thing. He's got a fractured C7 vertabra (I think the same thing that happened to Christopeher Reeves).
So...next time you think it's rude or impolite to tell that 'over his head' rider to cool down or screw off, think of this.

Damn, that is one powerful picture. graemlins/eek.gif :( One more reason why we all should take it slow and easy on the streets.

OMG...that is scary. I really hope Jason (head in windshield) makes it out ok.

This is why we do the "Bob" speech before each group ride. graemlins/righton.gif

I recall a post on the 600rr.net forum. The guy may actually be "Bo" (the one that may lose his arm).
I can't find the post right now but the dude posted up saying that he was back home from the hospital but with missing "parts". He had in fact lost his arm.
Sad story ...

For those who haven't heard it, it goes something like this:
Always ride your own blah blah blah,
not the pace of blah blah blah...
This is not a blah blah blah...
If we're going to turn, then blah blah blah...
Don't worry, we will always blah blah blah...
If you need to leave the group, let someone blah blah blah...
Have fun and ride blah blah blah...

the sad thing is that picture looks all too familiar. It isnt even that shocking. It is shocking maybe the first or second time you see it..but try seeing it in person a few times. Ride careful...people.

Besides, I've been on rides where even if the "speech" is given, people still do stupid things, so I don't bother anymore, I just let others give the speech. Actually, I think the only time the speech is really needed is when there are new people riding with the group. New as in, new to the group, and/or new to riding. If I know you're a responsible rider, I don't feel I have to remind you to be careful. graemlins/thumb.gif

But yeah, you know I'm just joking. You always look out for yer fellow riders. I am working on being the same. But I'm a shy guy. I need to break out of that shell.

Granted, its mostly the newer members that havent really had a chance to see how laid back we are, but it still happens more than it should.

To the guys that went to last saturday's ACH ride. Do you remember seeing a silver F4i being loaded onto a flatbed? Well, turns out my buddy's friend sold that bike to the guy that downed the bike last saturday. Hope you guys understood that. Anyways, the guy has sustained some SERIOUS injuries. The worst of all his injuries would be castration of his manhood. Dunno how it happened because I didn't want to know anymore.

Haven't heard anything on any other boards either.
