Ride: Malibu- Topanga/Old Topanga/Mulholland/Dry Canyon Cold Creek/Stunt/Schuren/Piuma

Meet: Chevron on PCH at Sunset
Time: 10am
Address: 17301 Pacific Coast HWY, Pacific Palisades, CA., 90272

Rumor has it the CHP really is cracking down on speeding and everything else this time. Before, you'd hear about it but it wasn't real noticeable unless you actually got pulled over, but now, I've noticed a LOT more law enforcement on the freeways pulling people over, and someone on SCS reported seeing a bunch of police on Mulholland between PCH and Decker. Thankfully I don't ride that way, so hopefully we'll be ok. graemlins/laughing.gif

Anyone else want to take the risk to ride Malibu with Shelly, myself, and Patrick?

I have a lot of friends that are LEO's and the word on the street is that due to local and state cutbacks you better get used to lots more tickets being given out.

Now, you can say that this is bull but I'll counter with this: When I asked my friends (one LAPD & two CHP) if there was a quota system or monthly minimum they said "no, we just like pulling people over at the end of the month more than the first half of the month..." as they graemlins/rolleyes.gif

how long does this ride usually take? Well Shelly and I have to be back to my house by 2pm, soooo... Meeting at 10am... ride for about 3 hours... head home around 1pm. I don't plan on going to the Rock Store by the way. Only because I've only got 3 hours to ride. I predict we'll be on Stunt/Schuren/Piuma most of the time. From there, if anyone wants to go to the Rock Store, I can give you directions.

Sounds like fun. I'll try to make it out. Can I sweep the group?

so is this ride meeting at 10 or leaving at 10. just don't want to get there at 10 and have everyone waiting for me to gas up...the last time we did it I think that we pretty much left at 10, but just want to be clear.

Oh if i need to force myself to get some sleep tonight, how long does nyquil last? :(

If I can get the stock mirrors on tonight, I'll be there tomorrow.

And since I haven't ridden any twisty roads in a couple of weeks, I'll be slower than slow. As usual I'll ride my own pace at the back of the pack.

I haven't ridden in a month and my tires suck monkey nuts, so no worries.

ZMoe

I'm guessing Shelly and I will get there right at or just after 10am. Probably leave no later than 10:20am. Of course if someone shows up just as we're about to leave, we'll wait for them to gas up, but if someone's not there by 10:20am, the rest of the group should head out. Even if it's Shelly and I that's late, just go. Do some exploring. graemlins/laughing.gif

Well that was a nice ride. I thought maybe the day would be filled with little annoying instances after Shelly's clutch cable broke (at my house), like it would be "one of those days," but everything was ok. The only other problem was sidsters' license plate being loose.

Even riding 2 up wasn't so bad. Thanks to Shelly, Patrick, and Andre for taking pictures, I look forward to seeing just how not fast I look. graemlins/noteeth.gif

Riding home was a bit of a pain. Lots of traffic on the 405 south. Had a couple cages try to cut across lanes in front of me. All hail experience, awareness, and good brakes! graemlins/notworthy.gif graemlins/notworthy.gif graemlins/notworthy.gif

And thanks to Roar and Tak for making the trek from the OC to ride with us. It was fun riding Roar's SV. It felt so small compared to my bike. graemlins/laughing.gif And Tak's new bike looks cooooooooool. graemlins/cool.gif

Wow, that Repsol rep looks nice! Wait til I get mine done - I'm going for the Movistar Telefonica look. smile.gif Too bad it won't make me look like a movie star... graemlins/sad2.gif

What was up with the bike-trading?? Man, I could've been beating up on a 900rr!!! graemlins/laughing.gif

--sidster Woo hoo! A picture of me actually riding (I do ride every now-and-then). I think there's something wrong with your camera, all the shots came out crooked. tongue.gif

I swear, when I was looking for a bike about a year ago.. I saw the exact same Repsol replica off of Recycler.com. But why did you get rid of the yellow/black F4? graemlins/doh.gif

Sup ya'll...My pics didn't fair so well...damned digital zoom graemlins/nono2.gif They will need fotoshopping before they are even viewable and even then, they will not be 100%. Great to see you fellas again. I almost droped the bike at a stop sign on piuma...tak pulled up next to me, and i'm sure he was wondering what the hell i was doing, as i was fighting to keep my feet planted with the weight of the bike trying to go down, while crushing my jimmy at the same time(damn, i had to be hanging left today of all days). I was quite sore the rest of the piuma up and downs.

Oh and what is going on...i leave for a month and i hear that a lot of people have gone bike shopping. Maybe it is just rumors, eak seems like the gossip type.

nice bike tak, you got a hell of a deal on your old bike and on your new bike. Most of us only wish to get as lucky.

ZMoe

You mean the stop sign at the bottom of Schuren that T's off at Piuma? That stop sign has claimed quite a few sets of family jewels, and caused it's share of tip overs. graemlins/laughing.gif It's because the turn before it is misleading. You think you have enough space to stop for it, but you really don't and need to slow down before you even go into the turn.

That's the one...dammit all. I thought I was the only one. everything is still functioning down there, so i'll know better next time. May everyone else learn from my experience...trust me, you don't want to feel the pain.

Thanks man! If only I could ride beautifuuuully. redface.gif

Thanks for the great ride. I tried to get some practice in going up and down that stretch. At one point I scared myself silly by letting the clutch out too quickly(my rear tire did a mini-burnout-slide). I'm such a squid.
graemlins/scared.gif

Always nice to see you guys and have an incident-free ride. Awesome pictures too. Thanks for taking them. Those are the first pictures of me actually on a moving(barely) bike since I first started riding. I'm really hoping that I come back from the April 23 CLASS a better/safer rider. Sorry you got stuck behind me for a while Andre.

Oh, and there's no specific reason for selling the yellow/black F4. Just like there was no good reason for selling the '96 FZR600. I do like the fuel injection though. I'm pretty sure this won't be my last bike either. If a good deal comes up next winter for a used R6, I'd be all over that!

I am usually a pretty patient, mild-mannered rider in traffic, but after we broke off and were riding home...the whole "when in Rome" mentality took over, and i don't think I can go back.

I know that bikes can squeeze between cars but have just played patient and better safe-than-sorry. I saw Andre break from the pack like he didn't like playing with us anymore, and said damn that looks convenient and followed. I never really caught up, but came close right before he exited, but the 405 became less of a hassle with my new found riding style. I like it as long as traffic is moving...the whole rush hour parking lot is still no fun at all.

ZMoe

I sometimes prefer the parking lot scenario. It makes it easier to see the "openings" that cars might try to go for, so it's easier to prepare for it. It makes me go slower, but it feels a bit safer.

Sorry you got stuck behind me for a while Andre.CLASS was awesome. Be sure to hassle the instructors for help. If you can't think of something to work on, make something up. The ratio is not so good, so you really need to tug on their tails for attention. Get your money's worth! And I wasn't stuck behind you. I was sweeping the group (I hope I wasn't following too closely). Like I said, you looked good out there.

It makes me go slower, but it feels a bit safer.I hear that! Proficient Motorcycling also says to be extra aware when traffic starts to slow down (when you see the brake lights) or speed up -- that's when the idjits decide to change lanes without looking, signaling, and/or caring. I try to stop splitting at that point, unless the cars are all side-by-side.

Ride like you own the road, and one day the road will own you....that is an awesome quote, by the way!
