BTW, I'll make an appearance because my name is in LT's post. It's a perfect opportunity for me to break in my new suit.

Disclaimer: I do reserve the rights to back out in case if my suit doesn't match the color of new bike!

Can I meet you guys some place closer to Big Bear?.... lets say... Shell off the Baseline on 30 hwy? If I'm not mistaken, 18 still might be closed. So we'll need to take the 330 in that case. Or we can do 18 and comeback down to do 330 graemlins/dunno.gif

So, we should take 330 route.

Can you post directions to get to the Shell from Fontana?

do all you guys have full leathers when you go ride? Currently I only have a leather jacket, gloves and boots.. i don't own any leather pants. Should I get the pants before I start doing canyons?

Even tho most people didn't start riding canyons with full gear, myself included, i would recommend that you do get some pants. The number of people going down lately is insane. Might as well protect your body if you can. I would buy a suit if I were in your position...unless you can buy some pants that can attatch to your jacket. You will want to ride the track one day, and hate that you have to spend even more money to get a suit at that point.

RanchoRider
07-21-2004, 01:10 PM
yes, we ride canyons in full leathers, but some peeps do ride with jeans. it depends on how you ride. it's your skin. it's your choice.

be safe

A lot of people will not wear full leathers because of the Summer heat, but at least jacket, gloves and boots. I always wear my suit when I ride. But to answer your question, you don't have to wear full suit if you don't feel like it. We're not riding crazy out there, just a nice slow ride.

I found some leather pants by Gericke that would attach to my jacket, but only in the back with a 10" Zipper. Is this good enough for track use, or does the track require full zipper all the way around?

ZMoe

Track requires full circumfrance zippers.

Try NewEnough.com, they usually have some good deals.

It is good practice to always wear full gear. You just never know. :( I'm lucky and found a full Aerostich Roadcrafter for $300 on a BMW list. I have even worn it to a couple of track days (while I saved money to replace my "worn" leathers).

But then again, not many people there were actually newbies. I'm a newbie, but i don't think I was riding with the newbies as i didn't want anyone to follow me when i decided to stray from the pack ;)

You should introduce your friend to us. I think we all are aware of the safety issue here, plus we know each other pretty well. sorry noob question.. how long do the rides last? approximately how many miles do you put on ur bike in one ride? I think my bike gets bad gas mileage, i usually fill up every 90 miles cuz the reserve tank doesn't seem to kick in properly..

MAD1
07-23-2004, 01:46 PM
From where i live, this is almost a 400 mile trip for me. Can't make it home by noon so i can't go. I don't think that you will go 90 miles without passing a station. Ojai is the only time i think we went over 100 miles before seeing a gas station. I've only done the bear ride in my car, but there are stations at the bottom of the mountain and at the top. you should have to worry, just top off when you can and let everyone know if you are running low.
