View Full Version : Crest - 3/28 (alternate ride)
So Shelly and I can't make the Big Bear ride, so we're going to do the Crest. Probably the "back" way (Big T -> AFH). If you're not going on the Big Bear ride, you're welcome to join us.
Ride: Big T/AFH (http://www.zmoe.com/rides.html)
Meet: Shell gas station on ACH
Time: 10:00am (might be changed to 9am)
Address: 4530 N Angeles Crest Hwy., La Canada Flintridge, CA 91011-3201

So what are the police like on a sunny Sunday afternoon? graemlins/dunno.gif Kinda concerned about getting a ticket or two!
I might change the meeting location to the Chevron on Sunland @<hidden> Oro Vista. The ACH Shell is a hotspot itself. graemlins/laughing.gif
The last time we went up it wasn't too bad going the back way. Meaning= we didn't see any cops. I think they're mostly on ACH.

Thought I'd let you know.

Thanks Master_Bob. I'll update the info when I get home tonight.

I'm 80% up for this ride. I rather try breaking in my new suit on a local ride just in case it is too uncomfortable i won't have to endure a loooooooong ride home graemlins/dunno.gif
10am sounds good! graemlins/thumb.gif and I'd prefer the Shell station instead of the 76 graemlins/dunno.gif

I may be up for this if I can't get up early enough to make the long trip out to BB...and I have never ridden the crest before. I fear the cops up there too, how hard is it to keep it around the speed limit up there?

But the tight turns taken at 45-50 are still very fun. The posted 55 MPH is a fun pace on the upper portion of the Crest.
I would recommend you slow your pace the first few times up and down because there are portions which can get very hairy if you do not know where they are (mainly debris in the road).

I just refer to that general canyon area as "The Crest". graemlins/laughing.gif We'll be doing (lower) Big Tujunga and AFH out to the tree. On the way back we MIGHT go down ACH, depends on what others want to do. Some may want to continue riding (upper big t to newcomb's, etc).

--sidster Actually i think that the longer rides will help break them in faster. Once you get out there and ride you will see that it only feels really tight when you are off the bike.
I did a few squats and stretches with the suit on evertime I had the chance, that may help too.

If you guys go all the way up to Nuke's and have some spare change (and want some karma points), LA Biker (http://www.labiker.com) is having their annual "Road Gods" ride.
This is our annual offering to the good people who take care of us when we crash. It also is our way of building Karma Points for the coming riding season. Here's what you do: Simply show up at the Shell Station (at the base of Angeles Crest Highway) about 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning, and be ready to leave for Newcombs by 9:30. After breakfast, we take up a collection for the Search and Rescue people (who usually pay for supplies out of their own pockets). In years past we've collected over $500.00 each trip! Let's tell all our friends and continue this tradition of good for all!!!
It's been decided that we ARE going to meet at the ACH Shell gas station after all. 10am. From there we'll head west on the 210, exit Sunland, turn right, go up to Oro Vista and turn left. Oro Vista turns into Big Tujunga. Big Tujunga T's off at AFH where we'll stop to make sure we've got everyone, then turn left and head out to "the tree" for a break. After that... I think Shelly and I have to head back, but others are free to go their own routes (Newcomb's... Bouquet... etc.).

Roar is out. Yoji might meet us at the tree.
I'm in for sure, depending on the time we finish, i might hit up little T a few times afterwards or something...newcombs sounds interesting as well.
I just don't feel like riding down to SD this weekend for the palomar ride.

They also have a pool table, some fish, and once in a while a bear will show up. graemlins/thumb.gif
Hello all, glad to see everybody alive and well. Working 80 days straight sucks, not ridding for that time is worse. I will throw a front tire on and sober up by sunday, promise.

If you were heading East on the 210, you'll see the Shell towards the right. If you were going West on the 210, you'll need to make a left after you exit, back over the freeway, and the gas station will be on your left.
Usually we park on the sidestreet and sidewalk.

Look for an older model CBR900RR (dual round headlights) black/purple/yellow and/or a '90 Yamaha FZR400 (dual round headlights also) black/blue/gray. That'll be me and my girlfriend.
i'll be there...look for a black and yellow F4i too graemlins/cool.gif

Wow, nice ride Roy!! Is the F4i track-only now??
Nice pics, too, Patrick. Dammit, now I'm dizzy... ;)
It was good riding with you guys and gals today. When you can not do somthing that you really enjoy for an extended period of time it makes you realize how much pleasure you got from that act in the first place. Good ride pat, my question being how you got faster, even though you ride that pile of an R6.

It's ok at least you were in the right location to see my tail light j/k good ride had alot of fun hope to do it again soon.
remember all those caterpillers that were all over us when we were standing under the tree? I had a dream about them last night...
I was in the living room of my grandfathers house(haven't been there in about 10 years). the caterpillars were coming down from the ceiling. Guests are coming in and they are falling on them, but they aren't really paying attention to them...I look around and they are on the walls and the are at least a few on all the guests sitting around in the living room. None are on my wife in the kitchen tho. She is in there cooking. I'm sitting on the floor in the living room, getting frustrated at the situation i start flicking them off of jessica alba who is laying on the floor in front of me, i brush a few off of her shirt and she grabs my arm and we start rolling on the floor. We somehow are all sweaty with all of these people around in the living room and my wife in the kitchen...clothes are still on but we are getting pretty hot...i open my eyes, damn one minute until my alarm goes off. can't go back to sleep to see how the story ends, but I hated those damn caterpillars.
