View Full Version : Ortega - 8.21.04
warthawgg and I are going to ride Ortega this Saturday 8.21.04. This isn't posted on my site because my home PC is down for a while.
The details:
Ride: Ortega
Time: 8am, leave by 8:30am. (this gives some leeway on the arrival time, but please don't push it).
Meet: Gas station on south east side of 5 freeway. Hopefully Master_Yoda or someone else can say which one it is. All I know is, when going 5 South, exit Ortega Highway, turn left, go over the freeway, then there's a gas station on your right side.
Chime in if you're going, as I won't be checking this thread after 7pm Friday night.
If someone's coming that has a Chatterbox, please say so and I'll bring mine.

My shifter joints seized, so no riding while I ship them back to the manufacturer for replacement. :( I might head out, but it would be on a cruiser... blech. Anyways, I hope to see you guys out there, but I probably won't.
I don't know Ortega so I won't be riding "fast". Bring the cruiser.

It's a Chevron station right next to a Union76 station on the east side. Not the Chevron on the beach (west) side of the 5.
Don't know what my plans are for Saturday as yet. If nothing is going on, I'll join you. If not, watch out the the traffic. Popo's are usually there from Hell's Kitchen on east to Lake Elsinore (last 10 miles of ride). Hell's Kitchen is a good place to stop for drinks. It's at the second town (on the left side as you head towards Elsinore) you come to. If you continue a few miles you'll hit the Outlook Restaurant which overlooks Lake Elsinore. The road down to the bottom of the hill is a great road if there's no traffic and popo's. Be careful of DY passing as they sometimes have a Bear in the Air on the hill.

Thanks Bob, we'll keep it easy.

Thanks for the address, it DID help.
Pity it's a massive 96+ miles from where i live.
I'll hopefully catch you guys next time.
Enjoy youre ride. Stay well.
Looks like it might just be the 3 of us. Bob, if you can make it, I won't have my cell phone on me.... dropped it from about 30 inches up in the air and now it doesn't work. graemlins/bash.gif
So I'll see at least warthawgg in the morning.
SLACKER!

It was just warthawgg and I. And now I remember why I haven't ridden Ortega in over a year... not only is it farther away than the Crest, but no matter what time you go, there's tons of cars. This is the 3rd time I've ridden Ortega and all 3 times there's been cars. graemlins/bash3.gif
I think it would be a great road for a beginner to ride, since there's no way they'll ever be going much faster than the flow of traffic. graemlins/rolleyes.gif
Yup, you should have gone to the crest...the weather was great up there. no cars...well none that got in the way that is ;) .

There were more than 20 of us that started on the crest and rode AFH to the 14 into SCV. I just wanted to ride, and ortega is a bit far from me, for such a short span of road.
I road little T, ACH, AFH, and Bouquet...all roads are in great shape, and from 8am-10am things were nice and cool.

Azusa was boring today. Lots of car and trucks. I think I'll stick to the Crest...
