I am compiling a list of tips for our group ride:

In a canyon ride, if there is an intersection and a choice of which way to go, someone in the lead will always pull into an area where you can see them as you're riding down the road, to signal you which way the group is going to go. If you don't see anyone, then you need to keep going on the main road until you see us.

If your bike has some problems during the ride, try to get off the road safely. If we are missing anyone when we stop, we will go back and look for you.

Before the group ride, it's good to exchange your cell phone number with at least one of the riders; so we all can contact each other if someone get lost.

Don't EVER try to keep up with anyone. It's not a race track. One false move and your riding career can be over. Ride at your own pace.

NEVER cross the double yellow in a blind turn, or where you can't see at least 200 yards ahead.

Give the rider in front of you some room.

Give yourself some room for errors. Don't ride all out.

Wave when you see a short Asian dude with a silver R1 behind you! graemlins/twofinger.gif

dont ride over your head.

i know when i was first starting out on group rides, i thought i NEEDED to keep up, cause i diddnt want to be left behind or want others to think i was a dork.

i also thought that i diddnt want others to have wait for me, but trust me, the faster riders would rather wait 5 minutes for you at a rest stop than wait an hour with you waiting for a tow truck or worse.

**added tip**

Please also GAS up BEFORE meeting the group. There are no guarantees that the group will gas up before.

Nothing worst when we are all planning to meet at a starbucks at 9AM, and everyone is late...and then just when all people are ready to rock...someone announces they need gas...sigh...

So just fill up and be ready to ride.

When safe, check your mirrors to see if someone is close behind you. If there is someone behind, and they're behind you for a while, again...when safe, wave them by. If they want to pass, they will, if they don't want to, they won't, or they'll wait for a passing lane.

The passing lane... if there isn't a slower rider in front of you, stay to the right. You may be fast, but we've all experienced missiles fly past us without warning. It's better to give them space on the left than force them to pass on the right.
