View Full Version : Don't Shop at Bert's Mega Mall

I have to say that Bert's Mega Mall has finally lost its touch when it comes to selling.:dunno
For years I have bought from Bert's because their salesman, as obnoxious as they are, they negotiate an excellent deal. At least until recently...:confused2
I recently went to Bert’s to try and negotiate a good deal for my newly purchased CBR1000RR :fawkdance – first of all they wouldn’t even begin to negotiate or maybe I should say Caesar wouldn’t even negotiate. In fact, when I brought a price and a web listing from two other dealers his comment was, “Go get it there.” To my disappointment I purchased my bike at Hahm’s Motorsports in Orange. At Hahm's they matched the Bert’s price and they threw in an extended 4 year warranty for $300.00 – that’s three hundred dollars!!!
When I went back to Bert’s, Caesar tells me, “Well, we could’ve done that!” My comment was that they lost a good customer for a $300.00, 4 year extended warranty. I also mentioned to him that if he would’ve thrown in a simple helmet in order to show some effort to beat the competition they would’ve had the business.
Over the weekend I went back to get a cruiser, a 2004 VTX 1300, Red Tagged at $7400.00. When I asked the sales guy what the bottom line is on the bike immediately Caesar came over and claimed me as a customer of his. The other sales guy kind of back out.
The negotiation lasted about 30 seconds when both salesmen walked away because I offered them $6400 OTD for the VTX – they said I was crazy and that I wouldn’t find that price anywhere.
Of course I know I wouldn’t find that price anywhere – but isn’t that the whole point of negotiating?
Well, I guess the point of it all is not to go to a dealer that won’t even begin to negotiate and have their salesmen walk away just because of a low-ball sales offer. Bert’s happens to be that place. They no longer negotiate, no longer give the customer a chance to negotiate, and they don’t even care about sending their long time and faithful customers to other dealers.
Just to include a shopping list of the units I’ve bought at Bert’s:
1 - PW50
2 – Blasters
1 – DR125
2 – Sea Doos
2 – Trailers
1 – ZX6RR
Granted this is over a long period of time but all at Bert’s – I can no longer be a faithful customer to a dealer that isn’t faithful to their customers.
Bottom line: DON’T SHOP AT BERT’S MEGA MALL:madfawk

Holy crap, I was just there over the weekend and was attacked by 4 sales reps. I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to bike, but they sure made me feel like I know my shit. The retail price for a Honda Repsol Rep is $17k at Berts, 10k for an R6, and they're charging $1000+ for freight! That's more than 2x the freight of a car!!!!! LOL They have a lot of bikes to sit on though :D :D :D

you guys get ripped on bikes here.
i paid 8,100 otd for my 04 r6 and i paid 9,999 otd for my zx-10r in tx
looks like i'll be drivin back there for my next bike
oh and i could have gotten a zx-6r for 7,600 otd but i wanted the r6 so bad.
oh and the zx-10r would have been 9,770 otd but i had ot have black so bad so they did a dealer trade and the other dealer made me pay a 250 assy fee as to where the dealer i bought from would have sold me a bike they had in stock for 9,770 otd.
these cali dealers are rip offs from what i hear

Yeah, Victor. Unfortunately unless you know somebody on the floor, the sales dept is only going to treat you one way. I can't say that I don't, or wouldn't buy crap from Bert's, I've actually negotiated some decent prices on boots and a suit, but I don't think I'd ever buy a new or used bike from them.

That's just it - I do know all the top sales guys personally. I've sat around to "shoot the $hit", talk about what hot and what's not. What they are looking to get out the door and how other buyers are stupid becuase they pay full price on units. I've had some of them even tell me what the bottom line prices are on some units. They've told what mind games they play with the customers and how they get them to pay full price. I've had a lot of inside information about Bert's through some of these sales people.
I mean, I felt betrayed by him. I don't know what happen but you can't even have friend that work at Bert's.
I especially went back to this guy because he got me an excellent deal on my ZX6RR ($7,700 OTD in the month of June of 2003).
I don't understand but all I can say is that I'm moving on to other dealer and never coming back to Bert's.
So far Hahm's is wheeling and dealing the way I want them to - I may not have gotten the best price on my CBR1000RR but the $300 for a 4 extended warrenty was an incentive enough for me to buy from Hahm's.
I'll go back to negotiate another deal with and so far they have my referral.

Question???? If you change anything like exhaust , sprocket, air filter etc. on the bike will it void the warranty? I know some brands/bikes have that in the fine print.
RC-5Juan
04-25-2005, 02:01 PM
No. Warranty cannot be voided unless the problem can be attributed directly to the modification you made. For example...They cant claim aftermarket headlights caused your engine to blow, but they can claim the nice new PCIIIR you installed had a bad map that caused it to happen. Its California law.

new complete rear end from vibration
driveshaft from vibration
center vents and needs em again
window hitting vert top
left front wheel bearing bad
right front wheel bearing bad
drivers rear window wont go up or down now.
pinion seal blew out had it fixed
pinion seal is leaking again.
dude i payed like 35k for this car and it is a total POS! i dont see how ford sells this junk and how idiots like me are duped into buying it.
im going back to hondas, i'll just deal with all the riceboys telling me how to fix up my ride at the track.that was less of a headache than this damn car.

i live next to willow, i stop at the gas station nd talk to all the guys driving and or trailering all there cars to and from the track.
ive had this talk with them and most em, if not alla gree the evo hands the sti it but all over willow.
the evos motor can handle 500+hp easy stock, the sti handles about 400 "safe"
the evo stock turbo can support about 400 whp on race gas
the sti stock turbo handle what 325 maybe.
ive driven both, i was gonna get one of those 2 before i decded on the cobra
id get the evo for the handling alone, its a huge difference. the evo is literaly like a go-kart. the subaru felt like an accord.

I found this site by doing a Google search for "berts megamall warranty"... anyway, I bought my Suzuki LC there. I joined this cite JUST to reply to this thread... LOL
I have on numerous occasions SWORE I'd NEVER go back to Berts. They're OVER PRICED! I had a couple of tires put on my LC (white walls) and it was close to $500! I about crapped my pants. But that's not why I'm here.
I was commuting on my bike ("03") and racked up the miles. I was averaging about 3,000 per month. So the bike has high mileage (77,000). The engine's been burning about 1 qt of oil/3000 miles... yatta yatta yatta. So I took it there to get it examined/fixed. BUT I wanted to make sure the EXTENDED warranty would cover it. They guy said it was two hours labor to check it out. I didn't really think about that. I also mentioned the rear floating disk kept getting loose (this is my third one!!!). He said he'd charge one hour to examine that! ONE HOUR???? I said it's loose... there's nothing to examine. He kind of looked at me, then said... oh well just forget that then... I won't charge you the hour... NO SHEIT!
Then I started thinking about the two hour charge to diagnose the engine.... two hours... hmm... TWO HOURS? IT'S A COMPRESSION CHECK!... JFC... CROOKS!
So last night I got a call saying they needed authorization for a $1,500 engine tear down... HUH?
Long story short guys... today I went back there and told the guy BEFORE we tear down the bike...ONLY to possibly find that the warranty people are going to say it's "normal wear and tear"... let's call them to see if they'll cover it. He (the service manager I believe) said, well, before we can contact them, we have to know what the problem is. I said, we KNOW what the problem is.... it's either the piston rings... valve OR the valve guides!... JFC... He said, ya, you're right.
I finally said, just forget everything. I'll pick up my bike tomorrow...
I'm telling you guys, they will take you for every dime you got! I'd recommend avoiding them at all "costs"....

I've purchased 4 bikes through Bert's and they've gotten much worse these days. I can't believe they charge like $1k for freight and another 1k for setup. They' f'kin nuts.
Although they were cool enough to take the Super Duke outside and start it up.

I agree that Berts has the right not to negotiate, they are a dealer and can operate in any manner they choose. Bert's must sell bikes to exist, it's probably integral to their mission statement. At the same time, the customer is king, and can act & react in any manner they see fit. This in turn gives Berts the right to accept or reject any offer or negotiation. It would be contradictory if a potential buyer didn't bitch & moan when a dealer doesn't give in, it's a right of passage, isn't it? I have witnessed many deals go south when either partiy has unreasonable expectations. Finding a good salesperson is key, IMO.

i agree....and would only add one thing. if your initial offer is so low that the salesman feels you are not a serious buyer...negotiations start off with reasonable pistions on both sides.
i can offer Berts $5k for the new '08 gsxr.....but he will not take me seriously

OTD cyclesports FTMFW. Got my 07 CBR600RR there, and I couldn't be happier (aside from the fact that the porter drove off with my key before I took delivery...took almost an hour to realize he had it, call him back and deliver it). I love those guys there, Bob, Manny, Ray and Hawaiian Ryan (or Brian, not sure) are all cool cats there.
Berts has an air of arrogance because they have larger overhead and lots of bikes to look at, and they'll use every bit of it to bully you around. They also don't know when to lay off. My advice, turn around, go somewhere else to buy, unless you know someone personally.

i don't get this.....
berts provides a bike, financing....all at a price you can afford. i cannot understand how you can be happy with the contract at the time you sign it and take your bike home.....but then get pissed off because someone tells you got ripped off.
one thing i have noticed......somebody always knows somebody with a hookup or just thinks they know of a better deal.
if you think you can get it cheaper, don't sign the contract.

OTD Cyclesports will ALWAYS do better than Berts. I defy someone to prove me otherwise. Like blahbla says....If you arent happy with the price, dont buy it from them. Its their job to sell bikes, not to make the customer happy. If you are happy with the deal they give you, then who cares. I still remember the day I went over there pretending to be a 1st time rider and the salesman trying to talk me into a 1000rr.
And Evo's are wack.

Berts has gotten much worse over the years. I remember when they were much more humble. This was before they moved to Covina (where in Azusa). I bought my first bike there right after they moved to the new location. I remember they had good deals from time to time. When my 929 was stolen, they had new ones selling for $8400 before tax and fees. Not bad considering 929s were less than a year old. I doubt you'd ever find that there now.
Last time I was in there they wanted like $17,000 for an R1!!! They tripled the BS freight charges and handling fees!! WTF!! They are wack. And the owners daughter was a biotch to my friends once. She wouldn't let us return a helmet cause she thought we wore it!! One time I rode up and was looking at this brand new 911 turbo that pulled up. I started talking to the guy and he turned out to be the owner of berts. Wonder what he's driving now since they got crazy with the prices. I will never buy from them again.

I crash too much to ever buy something new- I pay cash for all that a drive and ride... that said, OTD seems like the best no B.S. place around. For a big store, Del Amo has some good deals sometimes. A store has to pay the bills and I don't blame them for making a profit. There are people that just have to buy a bike and I'm sure Bert's gets plenty of business from impulsive guys that don't mind a 5 year payment plan.

Hmmm. Ive always heard bad things about berts. But I go there a lot to "LOOK" at bikes and to "TRY ON" gear. Since they seem to overprice what they sell.
But I got a friend that was looking for a ninja 250, so I called berts about a used bike. I got a salesperson that was SUPER nice and real courteous. He told me that thet had new 250's on sale....they were at a really good price. I told him we were coming in on the weekend. He followed up with a call the day before. And when we got there he was super honest, They got me the same price that OTDcyclesports had, the manager came and showed the ad. Even the manager was also very nice and polite when my friend turned out to have horrible credit. I never thought I would buy anything from berts, but this last experience really changed my mind. I dont know about their prices for other bikes(OTDcyclesports always sets the bar) but I wont rule them out next time.
It was a pleasure working with them.
P.S. they didnt try to sell or push any other "big" bikes.

One thing I noticed about all dealers right now, and this includes cars trucks and bike dealers, is that they're all really desperate for some reason. My friends have all had to quit their jobs at dealerships because sales were so low they all got switched to min-wage instead of commission.

its not stealing if you:
1. sign the contract
2. handover your money
3. don't shop around for a better deal
if you do not like the price...do not pay...its pretty simple.

I told the sales person that I was unwilling to go over a certain amount of money on a toy. I asked if he was willing to make a deal. He said he would check with the manager. 20 minutes later he came back with a price $1,000 more than I was willing to spend. I explained that it wouldn't make sense for me to spend so much and that I didn't want to go back and forth all day. He told me to wait a few minutes. 10 minutes later he came back and took $100 off the last price. I thanked him for his time and asked for my ID back. He said ok and 15 minutes later he came back with the manager who explained that they couldn't go any lower. I said that I could do better elsewhere and asked for my ID back. He said ok. 20 minutes later the sales person returned and asked me what I thought about this other bike he had. I told him that I want to leave and asked for my ID back. He said ok. 10 minutes later he returned and said his manager was making a phone call to see if he could meet the original price I said I was willing to pay. I walked into the managers area and demanded my ID back. The salesperson had my id in a folder that he was carrying the whole time but he didn't want to give it back to me until I bought something so he could make his commission. I was too angry to conduct business with these people. I will never return to Berts again. I will tell everyone that I know to stay away from Berts. Why would anyone have to ask 4 times and wait 45 minutes for a salesperson to return their Drivers license. Extremely unprofessional.

that exact shit happened to me. i was fuckin pissed.

i have never had any problem with Berts. if they have a bike a like, i make them an offer. if they accept it i ride home.....it does not bother that somebody got a better deal somewhere else.
i could have gotten a better deal to, but i was happy with the offer i gave to berts....the fact somebody got it cheapoer somehwere else does not effect me.

Same thing happened to one of my relatives at a car dealership a couple of years back, so apparently it's pretty common. I make a point NOT to give the dealer anything unless we agreed on the price, and even double check when we go to the "finance" guy. Hopefully this well get indexed with Google soon so people won't fall for it. Buy low and sell high is just the nature of business, but cheap tricks like that are lame.

The salesperson had my id in a folder that he was carrying the whole time but he didn't want to give it back to me until I bought something so he could make his commission. the taking of the license is a standard practice in a T/O type sales place....they all work from the same script....that is why you talk to the idiot sales guy, play that game with the paper and get asked questions like "if i could get you into this vehicle for $_________" . lower end car dealerships do it....its just a type of sales strategy, usually used on "payment buyers".....people that have a budget, and have to be coaxed into the sale.....
do not give your license.....i don't until i have a deal.

I live 5 min from Bert's so I got to know the sales manager . Every time I go in there I go to him and ask him to price match and he does. As for the moto sales dept they will also price match you have to do your home work when buying from Bert's. Or you can just take Flor with you...works every time:D
