I have a Penske reservoir shock to fit on my ZX7R but I want to rebuild it before I put it on the bike.
Has anyone here ever rebuilt these types of shocks before and what is involved?
Cheers
Bernie

lol
we were just talking about this last night
Why bother when Stig at PPS racing will do an oil change, N2 recharge, set it up and look everything over for $95!!!!
He uses Ohlins 2.5 wt shock oil that transforms ANY shock to a plush well controlled riding unit.
I had my old stock ZX9R stock shock serviced by Stig and the 2.5 wt Ohlins oil made the bike ride super well.

Bernie,
It's not very hard to do, but you'll need a few specialty tools and a very clean room. Why did you want to rebuild it? is it used? Rebuilding shocks is quite easy and not time consuming at all, as long as you've got all the right tools/parts/ and access to n2. Most people would rather just pay someone else to do it because of this hassle.

Penske's don't usually need rebuilds unless you are revalving them....At least that's what the tech at Penske told me. My understanding is they are by far the easiest shocks to work on. Either Stig or Dave @<hidden> chasis dynamics can service it for you.

If you ride a lot (like me), the shock should be serviced every year.
If not, once every two years is plenty fine, the oil and N2 need to be replaced at least at that interval for optimal performance.

Yes, the shock is used.
It is leaking some oil from the AN fitting on the reservoir and the selector is kinda funky. The shock itself looks fine but I have never ridden the bike with it on it so I do not know the condition.
I may just go to one of the pros to have it clean it up if the tools needed to work on it appear to costly. I doubt I will do it more than once until I move up to another bike. The shock sells for nearly 800 clams so I guess a 95.00 tuneup can't be too bad.
I'll check into it......thanx
Bernie

You will be absolutely surprised at how well your bike handles after the service.
Stig's site is pps-racing.com

That website's not loading for me Earl.
I think it's ppsracing, without the dash.
