I have bit over 4000 miles on my bike, and just wondering when should I starting thinking about changing the pad on my brakes? Only thing I have done so for is couple of oil changes, want should I staring thinking of replacing. (air filter and etc)

You should be fine unless you ride the brakes a lot. Simple answer is look at the brakes and see how much material is left. You can do this without even taking the calipers off of the bike.

the pads have a slit down the middle of them, if they are ground down to no slit then change them. i have 12000+ miles on y pads and they are still good but ill prob change them soon. as far as air filter i just wash off and re-oil every time i change the oil but i have a K&n, yes i bought into the hype.

Yeah your brake should be good for awhile longer. If you need more bite, put on braided lines.
