Q: How do I remove/install the front wheel??
This tutorial is a step-by-step guide for removing the front wheel. Although an F3 is used for this tutorial, much of this is applicable to motorcycles in general. However, the tools used and torque values stated may differ for your bike. Therefore, check your own service manual or other authorative source for tool sizes and torque values for your bike.
Tools Required:
- rear stand
- front stand
- 12 mm wrench/socket
- 22 mm wrench/socket
- all purpose grease
- torque wrench
Wheel Removal
Step 1
Suspend the front wheel. A front stand is recommended (NOTE: NEVER use a front stand by itself. Always install a rear stand first!!!)

Step 2
Loosen and remove the front axle bolt using a 22mm wrench.

Step 3
Remove the left front calliper mounting bolts using a 12mm wrench.

NOTE: The service manual states to only remove the left front calliper during this procedure. However, I've found it easier to remove BOTH callipers. This will make installation much easier and also reduce the risk of ruining your rims, especially if they're custom painted.
Step 4
Loosen all axle pinch bolts using a 12mm wrench. There are 4 bolts total (2 on the left fork and 2 on the right fork).

Step 5
Remove the front axle. Be prepared to support the wheel with a free hand.

Step 6 (optional)
The most common reason for removing the front wheel is so that the wheel can be taken to a shop for the tire replacement. If this is the case, it is strongly suggested that the front wheel spacers be removed. It is NOT needed for tire installation and balancing so why take the risk that it get lost or damaged??

Removal is now complete. Do not engage the front brake while the wheel is off. It may push the pistons out of the caliper and it can be difficult to get them back in.
Wheel Installation
The installation is more or less the reverse of the wheel removal procedure.
Step 1
the wheel and tire should give the same indication as to the direction of travel. The direction indicated by the arrows is a FORWARD direction. Not a rear one! In this picture, the front wheel (left side of the pic) and the tire (right side of the pic) show the directional arrows indicating direction of forward travel.

Step 2
identify the spacers. The spacers are not of equal size. The largest one goes on the right side of the bike.
Note: if the spacers were removed from the installation, you need to do this step.
NOTE: my sincerest apologies on the quality of this pic. I couldn't get it any more clearer. But it illustrates clearly enough that the right spacer is bigger than the left spacer.

Step 3
Grease the spacers and install them into the front wheel hub.

Step 4
Grease the axle.

Step 5
Install front axle. This may be difficult because you must align the wheel with the two spacers and the forks. Just practice and this will be second nature. Make sure no spacers fall out during this step.

Step 6
Install the left front brake calliper with a 12mm wrench. Torque value is 22 lb-ft. If you are having difficulty getting the calliper onto the rotor, try applying pressure onto the brake pads to push the brake pistons back into the calliper.
Note: if you removed both callipers during the removal procedure, then install both callipers in this step.

Step 7
Tighten the axle bolt. Torque is 43 lb-ft.

Tighten the axle pinch bolts. Torque is 16 lb-ft.

Installation is now complete. You may need to pump the front brakes several times to build up the proper hydraulic pressure in the brake lines.
