View Full Version : Help: Power Commander Prob at Altitude?

Yesterday I was unable to start my 929, after having taken it up to 5k feet altitude. It was running fine until I pulled over to top off the gas tank... turned ignition on and only got the red low oil pressure light, whereas normally the green neutral light would also be on. I turned ignition off, then on again a few times until green light appeared... I was able to turn engine over, but it wouldn't hold an idle. After a few tries I was able to hold a high rev for a minute, afterwhich it would idle again.

Is this a power commander problem? Some other riders mentioned that PC's have an option (a switch) which makes them better suited for high altitude.

Anyhow, bike ran great the rest of the day... I even stopped it one more time, but let it cool for an hour before restart.

Thanks for any input,

Al

I think the problem is a result of not sending me those darn 929 pictures!! :fawkdance

doesnt the pc adjust on its own at altitude. maybe you put too much gas in the bike :idunno

I have always been under the impression the electronic fuel injected bikes will compensate for the lower amount of oxygen in the air on their own. It was the mechanically carbureted bikes that had problems since the onboard computer couldn't compensate for lower levels of oxygen.

The oxygen senser told your pc to run lean, lack of O2. As a result you had to turn it over until the fuel pump pushed enough into the head to fire. And because the computer was adjusted(probably way before you stopped) you had to hold higher rev to pump more gas.
yady yady ya blah blah blah... better than blowing a head because of to much oxy.

And I thought the Flux Capacitor went bad or something...
