View Full Version : My thoughts on SBN track day this year

I just want to say how much I enjoyed riding with you all at the track on 7/2, talking to people, and meeting new faces. Yeah it was freaking hot, and some people were antisocial (EARL specifically! LOL). We probably need to organize the darn BBQ better next year though. Darn, eating 1/2 cooked meat caused me to poop funny! :fawkdance And I think we need only 2 garages next year, too. Four was way over kill, even for 40+ people. :P A bunch of you need to clear your schedule NOW for next year SBN track day! :welcome
It's a good thing that this year there was only ONE minor mishap in our group, and all other crashes didn't involve any of the SBN members. It's funny at times how I read posts at other places, people LOVE to blame us the SBN group for the crashes then to find out that those that crashed were not even part of our group. Yet, people always find a way. I remember on 6/2 at Streets Of Willow, there were red flags out on almost every session, one session we had 2. Good thing we didn't call that SBN track day, or else some one would have blamed the crashes on us even though only about 7 of us were there :lmfao
Track Daz did their best to keep things running smoothly, despite what happened to Dustin the day before. For the most part, everything went smoothly despite all the crashes that were NOT PART OF OUR GROUP :lmfao, minus a few "HOT" moments on the pit lane. :burnt I always enjoy Dustin and his crew, especially Gil's smartass comments.
Anywho, I'd love to hear your thoughts about our trackday on July 2nd. Please keep this thread possitive, and not turn it into a "bitch fest". :noteeth

Why is this News/Announcements? :P
I know it's tough to do, but I would love to be able to plan the SBN trackday earlier in the year. March and April are the best for me. Granted, it gives members less time to request time off and save up those pennies, but instead of bitching about the heat, we can bitch about those mooooootards. :noteeth

If you're going with us, be prepared to be labeled as part of a crash fest forum, even when only 1 person in the group crashed. :freakon

I had a good time. I didn't even notice the red flags all that much. Of course, I was nearly always out late and in early on Sunday. That's probably why.
Summer trackdays are the suck. I can paddle a 18 mile open ocean race in the middle of a Kona summer and not feel nearly as horrible as a 15 minute relaxed session in the summer. It's just not fun. Next year, think cooler months. Late in the season would be good. All the dweebs will be crashed out by then, each of us will have a few trackdays under our belts by then...it should be far more relaxed.
As for those folks that are oblivious to who's crashing and who isn't... It's been my experience that some folks can't help but point fingers at others, mostly to make themselves feel or look better. Sometimes they aren't interested in the truth...just as long as someone other than themself looks bad. Like, those people think they are the best drivers in the world, everyone else on the road with them is an idiot. Anyone that's quick to judgement or to point a finger makes me wonder how jacked-up their actually are and what they're trying to compensate for.

In a word "AWESOME...!" best describes my SBN track day experience...
I'd been looking forward to this event for months and some last minuite complications threatened to spoil my gig... But with a bit of stress and some 11th hour reprieves everything came together and I was able to make the show although a few hours shy of some much needed rest.
As always, the culture that congragates here at SBN is uniquely diverse and that makes for a very entertaining pit experience between track sessions. Top it off with a surprise visit by my brother and his lady and I was totally blown away... What an awesome surprise...!
As for track time and my performance, I felt as though I have improved significantly over last years visit to Buttonwillow. Finding greater compfort on the bike, trying new cornering techniques (i.e. body positioning), taking better lines through corners, and carring more speed through them seem to be the order of the day. No real drama or close calls for me in street group mostly clean green flag running.
Although it was warm, it wasn't as bad as I was anticipating but I would prefer a date in April or May for much better ambient conditions.
What an awesome day...!

I had fun. I didn't mind the heat too much, I just didn't pace myself properly and used up all the energy I had. Since then i've been working out more to get my stamina up and them ol' muscles working again. The last trackday I went to (monday 7/10) was just as hot, if not hotter and I was doing fine there. :thumb
As far as the red flags went, it was annoying that we couldn't finish a session, but I figured I couldn't get too mad at the person who caused it because after all, my bike was still in one piece. :dunno

I vote SOW on 10/27. Dixie and I are signed up already....anyone else?
Ha ha, my voice is like 98% back now, man that was something else! Had some sort of allergic reaction going on, glad it's over now!
I had a great time nonetheless and BW is definitely a fun track to ride on! I had no issues with having 4 garages, we all had more space that way and it nice in Garage No 1!
SOW or Pahrump sounds good to me, both are tard friendly tracks.
I'd be up for Fontucky later this year.

I'd love to have an early weekend track day next year too, but we gotta work with the existing calendar from the organizer. We're too small to have our own track day, in addition to the the high flake ratio. LOL
This year was a great homecoming for me. Even tho a lot of the regulars from the past couple years were MIA. there were plenty of new faces, and the heat wasn't all that bad. Anyone that went to that $50 trackday last year knows that this heat was nuffin'. 4 garages was over kill except for the fact that it seemed as tho all of the people congregated on either of the end garages. most of the people in garage #1 were people that I met on the other board. the people in #4 were people that i met from this board...strange. It was cooler in garage 3 tho.
i was riding in the street group, since I haven't been on the track or curves in a LONG time. I also like the street group for the lack of red flags. I can ride a relaxed pace all day long and not worry about much.
I would do an SBN day anytime...i don't care about the heat. I don't know about cal speedway tho...too much money. I actually don't know if i'd make any non-local tracks...without transport of my own, i can only make local days.
when is the next one?

It's awesome for a tard there!
I took my R6 to Pahrump 6/25 and REALLY regretted NOT taking the KTM instead.
The turns are abrupt and some are decreasing radius, just perfect for a tard!

7/2 was my 1st time at BW and I had a totaly different bike. Found out the bike was not even close to being right for me plus the tires got "greasy" after only 1 lap. They had 1 race on them at WSIR and looked OK??. Tried my CBR and started to learn a bit about the track, but 3 off track excersion on the RS 250 got me a bit spooked, so ave everybody a chance to go by me.
It was good seeing a lot of you that I know from the board. For some reason everybody stayed out of my garage except Sauce. (And we had 5 gallons of iced gator aid).
It is alsways a good day when you can ride, visit with friends, and come home "unscratched".
I really like SOW, so would be down for this date.
