Upon purchasing a used sumo, what do I need to go over? Forks look good, engine isn't leaking anywhere. Chain looks decent. Sprocket-teeth look good too.

Does a service manual exist for supermotos? Where can I get one?

Where do you guys typically get parts?

All I have on my list right now are axle sliders for the front and rear. (thanks Batman)

And here are some teaser shots until I get on the track. :thumb

Is the rear wheel supposed to touch the fender when you sit on it like that?

eh, add another handle bar, brake lever, front wheel and rotor to your shopping list.... drunken motard accident last night, dont really want to talk about it right now. i'm so sorry. btw, the engine starts fine, but there's a lot of leakage; forks seem okay though. again, i'm so sorry.

First thing is first.

Dial that suspension in. Set your sag and static sag and all that shit. Suspension set def. is important. Then I would get some new slicks. I didnt see any markers on the rear tire yesterday. METZLER!!!

Ya already got the slipper! And the sweet Beringers.

Edit. :thumbFirst thing is first.

Break it in properly. Throw it on the ground a dozen times. Then, throw it down on the other side a dozen times. Once that's done...

Very nice Herb...!:drool2

Did it come with wheels and tires for dirt riding or is it a tard only set up...?

Thanks for the comments. :thumb

Hey AR1, next time we'll discuss the SoCal housing market. There's a great video about it on You Tube. :thumb

The bike definitely will need some suspension sorting, but I may just ride it as is for awhile. Unfortunately, it didn't come with any dirt parts. I'm thinking about buying stuff for that purpose so I can go riding with my cousins (they're into dirty bikes). But, like the suspension, that's going to wait until I get some more seat time on the KTM.

Your probably heavy enough to just set all the suspension to full stiff (thats what I did on the old bike), and it will work out for you. I also dropped the forks. Id also go through and tighten the spokes. You will need to pick up a spoke wrench. Did he give you the owners manual? I would recommend checking the valves. If you want, you can bring it by and I can show you how. You will have to get OEM parts and a service manual from a KTM dealer. You can probably find lots of used stuff on KTM Talk. Invest in a good stand. Might want to think about picking up a back sprocket a couple teeth smaller for trackdays at Streets and BW. Change the oil.

Check www.motostrano.com or www.seventythirtyracing.com for aftermarket stuff. I would even apply for sponsorship from 70/30, and you will get dealer cost on everything they carry (both 70/30 AND lockhart phillips). Dont worry about not having raced. Theyll give you the sponsorship if you ever plan on racing. Motostrano gives you 5% off if you mention Supermoto Junky.

Oh yeah. Welcome to the tard side. You'll never want to go back.

Alright Herb! Congrats!!!!

What year and model is it?

I have the KTM owners manual and service manual (CD), you can borrow them and copy 'em.

I would check the valves and then change the filters (2), and clean the screen filters (2), and change the oil. It's a pain, but it needs to be done.

I use Dunlop roadracing slicks, the original set lasted 10 track days for me.

I use the same slicks on my TZ, and I recycle them to my KTM.

Get the axle sliders and you may want heavier duty lever guards, those plastic ones can and will break on asphalt.

Thanks for the offer RJohn! I may just take you up on that. There was no owner's manual, so I'll have to go find one. Are there any KTM dealers that you recommend I do NOT go to?

Earl, she's an 04 450SMR. Let me know next time you are around for Vietnam House, and I'll grab the CD from ya. Thanks!

I have the spec sheet that has all the info for both of our bikes.

We need to peg an evening next week and meet up for dinner at Vietnam House.
