LYTLE CREEK - A Rancho Cucamonga motorcycle rider who planned to take a day ride in the mountains was found dead Thursday after an all-night search by sheriff's personnel.
Murray Carver, 49, left his home Wednesday morning and told his girlfriend he'd return about 1 p.m., said San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller. The couple planned to take a trip out of town.
But when he didn't return, his girlfriend tried to find him. She located his truck on a dirt road near a Sierra Avenue gas station north of the 15 Freeway at the borders of Fontana and Rialto.
"According to his girlfriend, he had a heart attack about a year ago, and it's unknown if he has any heart medicine on him," Miller said.
Carver, who was riding a white-and-blue Suzuki dirt bike, planned to take the trail from Lytle Creek to the Joe Elliot Campground.
The county Search and Rescue team was notified about 5 p.m. Wednesday and sent up a helicopter, sheriff's Sgt. Debra Bauman said. The helicopter crew searched with night vision equipment until 2 a.m.
Ten to 12 people on horseback and quads resumed the search at 8 a.m. Thursday along the dirt road, which is used for maintenance of power lines, Miller said.
More than three hours later, sheriff's personnel and one of Carver's relatives spotted the body near the downed dirt bike. "A relative who rode (dirt bikes with Carver) was able to go up and point out three spots they went to regularly," Bauman said. The body was found in one of those areas.

Deputies lowered a paramedic from the helicopter to the body which was about seven miles from his truck. The paramedic confirmed the man had died, Miller said.
Search and rescue team members were able to fly Carver's body to the command post about 3:15 p.m. His cause of death has not been determined.

Wow, puts you in touch with your own mortality. Anyone of us could go at anytime. I'd like to die with my boots on like this guy did.
